Daphne programme working in WM
Responding to the UK government announcement that from 2011 every school pupil in England is to be taught domestic violence against women and girls is unacceptable as part of a new strategy (see the BBC website for more information), West Midlands in Europe would like to advise regional colleagues that a specific EU funding programme ‘Daphne III’ is available to support this exact cause.
The Daphne programme provides grants for public organisations who wish to work with European partners to combat common problems relating to violence in its broadest sense. Victims can be women, men, children, the elderly, young people and groups at risk. On the 20th November a West Midlands Information and Training Seminar was held at Newman University College for new applicants to the Daphne fund. The West Midlands currently has three Daphne projects running which were approved under the 2007 & 2008 calls for proposals.
This week members of the European Parliament urged the Council and the Commission to devise a policy plan to tackle domestic violence against women, in a resolution marking the tenth anniversary of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25th November).
